SUMMER KAMP

Program Overview

Kamp Kiwanis is a special place for children. Every year over 400 children attend a magical, fun filled residential camping experience in a positive, nurturing and active outdoor environment. This experience is offered by the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Kamp Kiwanis who since 1951, have through several major fund raising initiatives, offered this experience at 100% subsidy for every 9-12 year old who attends Kamp Kiwanis. We also gratefully recognize our many donors, who generously give funds every year so that we may bring so many children to camp at no cost to campers. For more details on a session (including how to attend) please visit the corresponding webpage.

How To Attend

Kamp Kiwanis is a bit different compared to most summer camps. Most summer camps have a first come first served approach to registering their campers. Since Kamp Kiwanis aims to provide a summer camp experience for children who would otherwise have no opportunity to attend a summer camp, our registration is based upon a nomination system. The majority of nominations come from teachers, but anyone can nominate a deserving child.

You can find the appropriate nomination form in the 'Extra Goodies' sidebar or in each sessions webpage.

The nomination forms are due by the date listed on the nomination forms. Once the forms are collected a selection committee comprised of Kiwanians and Kamp Kiwanis staff will sort through the nomination forms and select the campers who are most in need of a summer camp experience. Once the kampers are selected a health and permission package will be mailed to selected kampers families in early June.

Unfortunately there are only a certain amount of spots available and sometimes it is necessary to create a wait list for campers. Often spots become available up to and including the first day of the session.

Leadership Program Overview

Kamp Kiwanis Camp Leadership programs are structured to be a 4-step process leading to employment possibilities at Kamp Kiwanis Calgary. Participation in all four stages of the leadership development process is not essential to gain employment at Kamp Kiwanis, however it is highly recommended. There is a cost involved with our leadership programs, but Kamp Kiwanis does not believe that finances should ever be a barrier to our programs. Subsidies can be available if required.

The aim of the Kamp Kiwanis Leadership Program is to further develop expertise in a variety of wilderness travel and camp adventure skill experiences. The goal is for participants to develop both hard and soft skills that will help them to acquire job positions at Kamp Kiwanis or at any other camp. Kamp Kiwanis leadership program registrations are also nomination based. Just like the main program anyone can nominate a youth for a leadership program, however the main criteria is different for our leadership programs. When the selection committee goes through the leadership program nomination forms they are looking closely at the candidates leadership potential.

You can find the appropriate nomination form in the sidebar or in each sessions webpage.
