LITES KAMP

Overview
The Leaders In Training for Excellence (LITES) program at Kamp Kiwanis provides a summer camp experience for youth finishing grade 9 - 11. The camp session lasts for 19 days and focuses on 'hard skills'.
We are aiming to be a leader in the camping industry within Alberta in the training of camp leaders. As such, our program offers the greatest number of opportunities for adventure related and safety certification of any camp in Alberta. Participants acquire several nationally recognized certifications in outdoor leadership and safety including Standard 1st Aid, CPR from Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine, Bronze Medallion and Senior Resuscitation through the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada.
Leadership participants participate in an 5 day backpacking trip in the Elbow - Sheep River valley region of Kananaskis Country as well as a 3 day lake water canoe trip on the Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes. These back country trips will develop the wilderness knowledge and skills of participants.
Leadership participants also have opportunities to organize and lead program activities for campers aged 10-12 years old. This experience provides a well rounded foundation for working with children in the outdoors. Participants successfully completing this program are top candidates for future employment at Kamp Kiwanis.
There is a fee for service and open registration for this program, but scholarships of up to 100% are awarded to every camper where ability to pay is a barrier to participation.
How To Attend
Kamp Kiwanis leadership program registrations are nomination based. Just like the main program anyone can nominate a youth for the leadership programs, however the main criteria is different for our leadership programs.
When the selection committee goes through the leadership program nomination forms they are looking closely at the candidates leadership potential.
You can find the appropriate nomination form in the sidebar.
The nomination forms are due by the date listed on the nomination forms. Once the forms are collected a selection committee comprised of Kiwanians and Kamp Kiwanis staff
will sort through the nomination forms and select the participants with the greatest leadership potential. Once the kampers are selected a health and permission package will be
mailed to selected kampers families in early June.
Unfortunately there are only a certain amount of spots available and sometimes it is necessary to create a wait list for campers. Often spots become available up to and
including the first day of the session.
