A DAY IN THE FOREST

Overview

An environmental learning program recommended for Grade 1 students.

A Day in the Forest is an environmental learning program appropriate for many different ages of primary school children including Grade one students. The program immerses students in lower foothills forest for the day, where they learn about forest plants, forest animals, forest insects and about people in forests.

During 'Paint by Season' students learn about the diverse colours and variety of plant life. 'Guess who's coming to dinner & camoflage' focus on behavioural and physical adaptations of lower foothills animals. 'Two bee, an ant'examines the role of 'Wood Ants' in the forest ecosystem through engaging experiential learning activities. Students are sure to enjoy 'Diary Walk' where they follow a journal of a Forest Guardian and are encouraged to become a Forest Guardian themselves. Many of the activities used such as the 'diary walk' and the animal behavioural adaptation activity come from The Institute for Earth Education (IEE). IEE creates many excellent environmental learning programs including Sunship Earth and Sunship III.
